2011 Goals

I'll admit it: I'm not a fan of New Years Resolutions.

Mostly because I've never been able to make them last. But it's hard not to get caught up in the positivity and sense of a fresh start that people get around the first of the year. So I've joined in the wave of good intentions and set myself some 2011 Goals.

1. Run my 2nd Half Marathon
The 2012 Walt Disney World half marathon is definitely on the books, but I am hoping to get in another half before then (therapy permitting). My current thought is the Air Force Half Marathon.

Time, you've got me running

2. Run a 31 minute 5k
All runners want to be faster and I am particularly slow runner. I am hoping the benefits I am gaining from my therapy exercises will help me shave a minute from my mile time overall.

3. Preplan more dinners
One of my mantras is "fail to plan, plan to fail" and for me, it's very true. If I don't have some dinner ideas in advance Jeff and I will both get tired after a long day of work and running and pick the easy option - including relying on Subway or Wendy's chili. Eek! I need to make it a priority to seek out healthy, delicious recipes each week.

4. Try a hot yoga class
This one is pretty self-explanatory, although I am still slightly worried about passing out in the middle of the class.

5. Be a nicer person
This one will probably be hard in traffic, or when the random lady rams into me with her cart at the grocery store, but life is too short to be grumpy.

6. Try one new healthy thing each month
A new vegetable (or one I thought I didn't like), new workout, etc.. One new thing to spice up the routine each month.

Now that they are out there I hope I stick to them!

What are your new years goals? Do you have any recommendations to help stick to your goals?

  1. These are fabulous NY goals. I'm with ya on becoming a faster runner.

If you're up for trying a yoga studio, I recommend Nishkama Yoga in Independence on Rt. 21. The staff is wonderful, especially in helping out beginner yogis.

  2. That's a lot of goals for someone who doesn't like resolutions, lol. I hope being nice doesn't preclude being fabulously snarky, btw. :-)

  3. Love these! I wanted so badly to do the Disney Half this weekend but it didn't work out (had an injury after my 10k that derailed my training...boo heel spurs). I really want to eventually finish strong on that goal. And Nate and I just meal planned for 2 weeks and got all our groceries at the store. :) It's so hard to actually plan and cook at home. Especially when Chipotle is only 5 minutes away. ;)
